OBJECT: |
Prepare stable emulsion of 50/50 water-paraffin wax at 78 deg. C with small percentage of acrylic thickener and defoamer (component of preservative wood stains).
PROBLEM:
High shear mixing required to produce small droplets for stability. |
RESULT:
Paraffin wax was melted and slowly added using the down-mode. The down-mode allows the internal phase to be added on top and immediately drawn in for intitial emulsification. After 25 minutes of up-mode mixing, the resultant emulsion was superior to previously purchased supplies. |
AB MIXER:
Model CJ-4B in 5 gallon container.
