LOW TEMPERATURE SEALANT
OBJECT: Dissolve 4” diameter by 3 foot long extruded rubber/talc “pigs” into hot oil – a heavy paraffinic distillate/polyisobutene. Rubber is an isobutylene/isoprene elastomer.
PROBLEM: Size of rubber slabs preclude standard batch mixing methods.
RESULT: Force feed rubber with progressive cavity pump into eye of 6 x 3 Dicon impeller as hot oil is recirculated through Dicon and gear pump in series.
AB MIXER: Model 6 x 3 Dicon 30 HP, 1800 RPM.
BENEFIT: Large rubber lumps are never allowed to pass into mix tank. Complete dissolution occurs in one hour.
EQUIPMENT REPLACED: High speed disperser.
